Product invention is something that some people may do for a living, and others may do for a hobby. One of the most important stages you will reach as a designer is the production stage – this is where your product has come to life and is ready to be manufactured. By this point, you should already have prototypes and should be ready to go with the design and specification.

One of the main decisions you will need to make is where and how to complete the production processes required. Some people use lasers, 3D printing techniques and other design industry technology to make products in house. For products that are more demanding or that might need to be made in larger numbers, it might be necessary to outsource the process of production. If you can bring parts of it in house in future, this is also an option in the long term.
